We have a 3″ thick Black Walnut slab from which we want to cut the kitchen island L shaped bar top, the dining room table tops, and the pantry shelves. The Black Walnut is from Goby Walnut Products in Portland, OR. Goby Walnut Slabs are cut from extremely large Claro Walnut (Oregon Black Walnut) trees – some of these trees have unusually large trunks and yield large walnut slabs. Goby Walnut Products is concerned with the impact on the environment and the wood comes from local Northwest trees that are either hazard or salvage. The slabs are air dried for 2-3 years depending on thickness and then sometimes kiln dried.
